How sponsorship works

A UK employer must hold a sponsor licence and issue you a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) before you can apply for a Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa. The role must sit in an eligible occupation code (SOC 2020) and pay at least the general threshold or the going rate for that occupation, whichever is higher.

Fastest routes to a CoS

Shortage and high-volume occupations — care, health, HGV driving, butchery, hospitality supervision, engineering and teaching — typically issue a CoS quickest because sponsors recruit continuously and already have CoS allocation available.
